Whether you're taking a casual day trip close to home or a multi-day traverse through the frozen expanses of the Yellowstone Basin, the MSR Evo snowshoes are built for maximum efficiency across rolling terrain. It's no mistake that the Evo's UniBody Traction system acts as the foundation for some of MSR's most aggressive models. The UniBody's steel traction rails and brake bars are molded directly into the snowshoe decks, providing a secure and lasting grip on any terrain. Having the best traction when heading up or down even modest slopes in less than ideal conditions is something everyone can appreciate. MSR also holds the same standard for control, and the weather-resistant, three-strap PosiLock bindings deliver it in spades. PosiLock bindings provide ample freeze-proof and glove-friendly security, helping them easily accommodate a wide range of footwear. And hikers will love the all-condition adaptability of the Modular Flotation tails. The tails combine the maneuverability of a smaller shoe in packed conditions with the added, on-demand flotation of optional 6-inch tails when walking in powder or carrying heavy loads.

Simple and Lightweight excellence
By Jamin Redwood
Well, to start out with I have rented a few different brand and styles of snowshoes, including the atlas, aluminum tube style, LLBean tube style, and this MSR Evo brand. I have to say, I really prefer the MSR's because they are lightweight, and the all plastic bottom helps so the snow does NOT stick to the bottoms of the snowshoes. I live out west, in the Sierra Mtns. and the snow is wet and sticky. These MSR's plow through the snow, and don't fatigue the legs too much. The pivoting footstrap helps, so when you lift up your foot the rest of the "shoe" glides along the surface of the snow.
For deeper, fresh snow you can add the 'tail' piece to help to not sink as much ...

Best snowshoes out there
By Jonathan Penn
I purchased these snowshoes last year and it was the perfect year to get them. I live in MN where we received several 10"+ snowfalls last season and these came in extremely handy. I am an avid geocacher and I was miserable before these trying to climb snowbanks or walk across lakes. I weighed 280 pounds when I bought these so I bought the 6" tails to help with flotation due to my weight. These did add length but they were still very easy to walk with. At times, I did not use the tails and would only sink about 4-5" into the snow. Depending on how aggressive you are or if you are in the backcountry, the tails may be necessary. If you are heavier and intend to stay on trails, the tails would be more of an option than a requirement.
The durability of these is amazing. I do not see a need to replace these for many many years to come which more than makes up for the higher price. Nothing can be more frustrating than popping rivets on webbing in the middle of a state park.
The cleats and additional bite of the steel rails on these makes crossing frozen lakes a breeze.
I am looking forward to this winter and how fast I can move on these now that I am down to 225 pounds. These are a fantastic investment if you are looking to start or maintain a healthier lifestyle, year round.

Superb snowshoe
By Hallam
MSR EVOs are a good buy. You want a snowshoe that is durable, has good edges, has a pivoting binding, isn't too expensive, and doesn't throw snow up your back. This is it--not the cheapest, but the best value. Very happy with them.
